Profit Improvement Strategies

I assure you that everything you're going to read in this section will not be new to you. So, if there's not going to be an "aha" moment why read this section at all?

Because--if you're reading this you have a profit problem. Or you think you might pick up a clue that could help you run your company better.

Here's a short list of problems and troubles that either keeps you from making a profit at all or not enough of a profit:

  • No business plan
  • No clear strategy as to who is your customer i.e. no customer profile
  • No idea whatsoever as to what your customer wants or needs from your company
  • No clear USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
  • No clear idea of what business you're in
  • No timely, consistent financial reporting. Financials are always late coming to you
  • No idea whatsoever what your products or services actually cost you before markup
  • You have terrible ROIs and ROEs
  • Your gross margins are embarrassing
  • Poor personnel choices
  • Sloppy or non-existent HR practices
  • Failure to modernize plant and equipment
  • Total failure to understand the concept or "lifetime value of a customer." (see next bullet point)
  • Total collapse and failure to care for you customers (see bullet point above)
